A lot of time actors are worrying about making mistakes or are afraid that they may do something that they shouldn’t do in the audition room. Hell, sometimes we even think about every little detail of everything we did in the audition and try to pick out that teeny-tiny bit of mistake we may have made to work ourselves up!

            So I thought I would share with you the veteran casting director, Risa Bramon Gracia’s advice. After all, knowing what you should or shouldn’t do will ease your worries a little. Let’s dive into it.

DO’s

Have certainty in everything you do. Which is linked with making clear, specific decisions.

Make the room your own. In other words, command the room. Make yourself at home.

Know your words and understand what you’re talking about

Connect with the reader. The reader is there to help, use them to help you create the character’s world.

Take control of your movement. Stillness is powerful. Know when to move. Use it wisely.

DON’Ts

Ask questions just for the sake of asking. It is not a requirement to ask. So, only do it if it is necessary.

Don’t mime or busy yourself with props, activity, or blocking. Excessive activity or miming can take attention off your acting and your emotion.

Make excuses. Nobody likes a person who makes excuses. If you made a mistake, own up! Everyone can make mistakes.

And also Don’t blame! That’s no different to making excuses!

Ask for love. You are there to work, so don’t take it personally when casting directors are not touchy-feely. There is work to be done and they want to bring the best out of you.
