Erica Hart: How to Connect with Casting Directors

Since the pandemic began, everyone has been working at home most of the time. Erica A. Hart, a CSA casting director, thinks that it is the right time for actors to reach out to casting directors via email since most of the casting directors will be spending time on their computers searching for something specific.

Actors may ask “How should we reach out?” To that, Hart encouraged us to ask ourselves back, “How would you like to be reached out?” she said. Each person will have their own preference, but for Hart, she likes it to be short, sweet and to the point. I seconded that! I know if someone reaches out to me, that is what I want.

Specificity is the key. Reach out the purpose and reason. Why are you contacting them, did you see something they are casting? Why do you think you will be great for that role? And don’t forget to attach your headshot, reels, resume and your contact information.

When casting directors are looking for something specific and you think the breakdown fits your shoe, let them know! They will be grateful that you contact them! That’s it! Keeping it short and sweet.
