There is a scam in every industry, our industry is no exception. Not just only in Thailand, but everywhere in the world. While it is so disheartening and demoralising as this heavy topic includes devilish people toying with aspiring performers’ dreams and dignity, I will try to keep it light to encourage you all to read until the end and gain some valuable tips to protect yourselves!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The world has changed, and more and more people are taking things for granted. Less tolerance level, higher negligence, less endurance and growing impatient. Looking for a shortcut. So, here is the first tip I gathered for you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is NO \u2018quick\u2019 or \u2018easy\u2019 way into the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is if you want a sustainable career. But if you want the opposite\u2026 Proceed at your own risk. Now for those that want a sustainable career, you SHOULD think twice if something seems juicily good. Playing a lottery against the devil is never a good idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is always wise to do a background check on any companies or individuals who get in contact with you. Here are a few things you can do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Do they have a website? Does it look trustworthy? – Check the age of the site if possible. Be mindful that it is rather easy to create a professional-looking website nowadays AND reviews can be fabricated!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How did they contact you? – In the past, anyone contacting you via social media was a red flag. But nowadays, we lick our fingers and smudge that line, now it is hard to tell. In any case, make sure to check their background. Usually, if they are legit, they will have other professional methods of communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beware of the hook – Something that makes you feel special. Once again, if it sounds too good to be true, too good for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Check any venue or office they ask you to attend. A Studio? A building? Is the place owned by a company or rented? Many will ask you to go on your own, that’s another red flag! Make sure the venue is safe and professionally managed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It never hurts to take someone with you. Or tell someone where you will be, the address, contact number, appointment time and other important information you may have. If the person contacting you is not forthcoming with information, it is a big red flag!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beware of upselling. Very often they may lure you by giving you a good early day experience. Then they will begin to move things along very quickly and uncomfortably for you. Pressuring you into doing things you don’t want to, may it be signing \u2018contracts\u2019 or something more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t trust everything you are told. – Always take the information and double-check it. Yes, even if it is from someone you know. Do your own research!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
